Growing up, phyllo dough stuffed with cheese was a staple in our home! It was a must to have during any family function, party, or even an everyday treat! We would run to our favorite supermarket and gather everything in one-stop shop and head home, and create delicious recipes with fresh produce every time! After all, a little bit of a savory treat is always needed!
Although these Jalapeño Phyllo Poppers are very similar to Borek, they are also known by various names such as Burek, Bòrek, Börek, Bourek, Burekas (in Israel), and Burricche (in parts of Europe), which is phyllo dough or puff pastry stuffed with similar ingredients. It is a popular dish with many variations. Traditionally, Boreks can be either sweet or savory and are typically filled with ingredients like cheese, meat, or spinach. What sets these particular poppers apart from the classic Borek is their unique fillings and toppings, which give them a distinct twist on the traditional recipe.
The best part about this recipe is its versatility; you can customize it with a variety of fillings like potatoes, meat, or vegetables, and shape it however you like. STEPS TO MAKE THESE JALAPENO PHYLLO POPPERS WITH ROASTED PINE NUTS
Step 1: Firstly, preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, combine your cheese filling and set aside. Next, slice your Jalapeños down the center, remove seeds. After that, rinse and pat them dry, and set them aside.

Step 2: Secondly, lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a flat surface and lightly brush it with butter. Continue layering the remaining sheets on top of each other, brushing each one with butter as you go. You’ll need a total of 5 sheets stacked together for each roll.
Step 3: Spoon the cheese filling into each jalapeño half, then arrange them along the long edge of the buttered phyllo dough. Thirdly, using both hands, gently roll the dough over the jalapeños to form a log shape, brushing with butter as you roll.

Step 4: Then, cut and roll into 2-inch-thick pieces. (About 6 pieces per roll) Brush each piece with butter and roll in sesame seeds to have it coated all around. Place them upright (open side up) into a muffin tin and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.

Step 5: In a large pan, toast your pine nuts on medium-high heat, stirring vigorously until roasted and browned.
Step 6: Lastly, once done and baked, place your poppers on a decorative platter, top each popper with pinenuts, chives, and enjoy!
