Butter Nutella Walnut Cream Puff Pastry
This is THE BEST Breakfast Nutella Puff Pastry EVER! They are super soft, fluffy, and easy to make! It’s an easy dessert that’s quick to make and everyone will love it! For those Nutella Lovers around the world – Every bite is amazing!
Ingredients
Buttery Nutella Walnut Cream Puff Pastry
- 11oz 5×5 10 pieces puff pastry
- 1 cup walnuts
- 1 cup Nutella
- 1 teaspoon milk
Instructions
- Chop walnuts in a food processor on high speed until finely chopped. Combine crushed Walnuts and Nutella in a bowl. Remove wax paper from the dough and lay it on a lightly floured surface. (Make sure your dough is chilled before prepping) Cut tiny ridges into dough (1/4″ in size) with a knife or a pastry Lattice Roller. Take a new ply of dough and cut it through the center. The pastry will have one solid dough for the base layer and one ridged dough for the top layer.
- Spread about 3 tablespoons of Nutella walnut mixture in the center of the base layer. (Leave 1/2″ of space around the edges of the dough to seal it.) With a baking brush, lightly brush the edges of the dough with milk. Place the ridged dough over the bottom layer and press gently to seal.
- Bake: Place them on a non-stick pan about 1″ apart and brush 1 beaten egg over the top. Set the oven to 400° and bake for 20 – 25 minutes until puffed up and golden brown.

- Replacement of Nut Spread: A great alternative to replace spread would be pureed dates or a thick jam.
- Replace with Dried Dates: Remove the core of the date and blend about 2 cups into a mixer with a dash of vanilla extract.
- Replace with Jam Filling: Make sure your jam isn’t too watery. Place 1 tablespoon of jam and spread onto each pastry.
- Freezer Prep: Place pre-made pastries into the freezer on a baking pan and allow this to chill for 25 min. After 25 min, carefully wrap each pastry individually with parchment paper that is lightly coated with all-purpose flour. Once chilled, place them carefully in a ziplock bag. You can store this in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to bake them, allow your pastry to thaw out for 20 min. They should be slightly soft to the touch and still cold before placing them into the oven.
- Party Meal Prep Ideas: This pastry is great for planning ahead of time for any party!

You can thaw out the puff pastry for about 3-4 hours at room temperature before using. You can also thaw out puff pastry in the refrigerator overnight. If you are in a hurry, you can separate puff pastry and place each sheet with the wax paper liner on top of a pan sheet to thaw out quicker.
Yes, you can use foil, but it will not provide the same non-stick surface. We recommend using a non-stick cooking mat, preferably a baking silicone mat.
The best time to use puff pastry is when it’s semi-defrosted. It should be cold while prepping your pastry before placing it into the oven to bake.
Ready-made puff pastry is usually vegan. Most of the time they’re used with vegetable fats but can occasionally be made with butter so always make sure to check the ingredients list before buying.
Make sure the temperature in your oven is set to a high temp. If you place puff pastry into a low heat oven your dough will not rise. Make sure to place chilled dough at a higher oven temperature. (400°F is ideal)
You will find puff pastry in the freezer section of the grocery store near the frozen dessert, pizza dough, or frozen bread sections.
No, they are not the same. Puff pastry is a buttery fluffy and thicker type of dough. Phyllo dough is thin, dry, and flaky.
